The Ocean's Always Calling

Freshwater just won't do it...

Ever since I was a lil kid I have absolutely Loved the beach. Not the pretend-a-beach sand wrapped around a pond or lake- I mean salt water Ocean, vast horizon line that U can see for miles, nature-placed sand, & yes (I prefer) Palm trees. I grew up in Bridgeport CT, a city which one side length of rests on Long Island Sound (an inlet extension of the Atlantic Ocean). No matter what else is going on, I feel a sense of tranquility & freedom at the beach. It's funny tho because I was either 4 or 5 when I watched Jaws for the first time & became terrified of the idea of a “man eating” shark attacking me from under the water if I couldn't see to the bottom. My incubator for whatever reason thought it was a good idea for me to watch this movie with the adults. I was the only kid in the group, which that probably should have been a glaring neon sign that I shouldn't be watching it but everything isn't as obvious to everyone. Watching Jaws coupled with a bathtub incident from a year or 2 prior made it so I had absolutely zero interest in learning how to swim. Not that beneficial, considering my love for the ocean. I love being in the forest or woods also but it doesn't give me the same sense of freedom that the beach does.

At the age of 12 when I went into foster care, I still had access to the beach, & signed up for summer school classes that were comprised of marine biology as well as studying the area salt marshes. During the summer I couldn't wait to get up & go to school every day, completely opposite of how I felt about the regular school year. & Definitely for different reasons than when I was still residing with my biologicals, which is when I did like going to school, simply because it got me away from them. As a kid anything that had to do with nature, biology, or any form of art, I excelled in. As for anything else, if I was actively learning something I might stay interested. However whenever it came to subject like Government History (b.k.a. Authoritarianism) U couldn't have paid me enough to keep me engaged.

As a teen I was already on my own & “Adulting.” I got lost in the systematic enslavement of society while trying to raise my children to become/do/have better. & Working 60-80 hour work weeks as a pedestrian, doesn't leave much free time for stuff like trips to the beach, especially when U live miles upon miles or cities away from the nearest beach. My sons actually managed to get to the beach with friends or occasionally family more often, generally while I was at work. I was always grateful when they were able to go & do things that I just couldn't manage to accomplish for them, but I did really miss not being able to be there with them. At one point 20+ years ago, my kids & I lived in Ft Lauderdale for a lil bit, but life was a struggle just thru the day to day so we never made it to the beach. Honestly I didn't even know where the beach was at the point in time, even tho we only lived a couple miles from it. My focus at that point was working enough to get my babies & I out of the homeless shelter we were in at the time.

So here I am now, I have moved back to Ft Lauderdale. Currently in a temporary “living” set up while working towards my true Living every day. I've been back just under 2 weeks & I've found the Beach & been there twice already. Spending time at the beach revitalizes me in ways that I can't seem to really find anywhere else. I found a meme on fb many years ago that I instantly downloaded & use kind of like a “vision board” tho it's only 1 picture:

In my mind I’ve elaborated on this. This is my own lil island in the Caribbean, to the right hand side of my house is my lil garden & a bunch of fruit trees (starting with mango & avocado). In that same side of my house, since there is a nice shade going on there, I have my chicken coop, a couple of goats, & a cow or 2 all of which are treated like pets but they are for livestock/self sustainability purposes. I also have a couple of horses. This is my future. I will be sitting out on my back deck with my cup of ☕ early every day watching the sun rise, then again in the evenings enjoying the sunset.

Until this is my reality I am quite content living in Ft Lauderdale, where I have access to the beach via the city bus or more likely (once I’m in my apartment) by walking. I visited this beach again yesterday & spent a few hours there. This time I was in great company and there was a passerby who held conversation with us for about 2 hours. I took a bunch of pictures, especially as the sun started its descent. The color composition was phenomenal, incredibly mixed with storm clouds. At 1 point I was able to capture a Fire Dragon with charcoal gray wings. I also saw a white dolphin cloud formation which I thought was pretty cool. I took great pleasure in snapping these pix & watching the different cloud formations take place. I hope U enjoy these pix as much as I do.

Keep in mind, it's always important to make time for fun, beauty, & joy in your life. Your Soul needs to be replenished regularly. Don't get so caught up in “living” that U forget how to Live. Especially those of U who thrive thru Art (in All it's forms) & Nature. I didn't feel any poetry trying to pull it's way to freedom yesterday, but I also didn't really take any still time. I imagine some will probably come from looking at my collection of pix later. For right now I’m content with the beauty fresh in my memory & the pictures I snapped. I have a lot of things I’m in process of accomplishing at this moment. The poetry will start flowing again soon, that much I am sure of.🌅🌅🏖️🏖️🌴🌴
